A MAC története
In 1875, the Hungarian Athletics Club (MAC) was founded by Count Miksa Eszterházy. The creation of the MAC brought together all outdoor games. Over the years, the MAC has hosted twenty-one sports and its athletes have won 63 gold medals at the Olympic, World and European Championships.
Several first competitions were organised by the club. The club organised the first public, official distance swimming race in 1881 on the 31.5 kilometre stretch between Margaret Island and Vác.
The members of the association built the Margaret Island sports centre with a clubhouse, a rowing boat house and tennis courts, which was inaugurated in 1901. took place on 9 October.
On 11 July 1903, the Hungarian football team beat the Austrian national team 3-2 in front of 700 spectators.
In 1946, the MAC sports club was declared a fascist club, disbanded and its pitch and facilities confiscated.
In 1949, the Pioneer Stadium was built on the site of the MAC pitches, which was open to those who wanted to play sports and exercise. A II. The MAC clubhouse was severely damaged in World War II and demolished in 1958. Nearly three decades passed in silence, and the club was only rebuilt after the change of regime.
The next stage in the modern history of the club was the merger with the Népstadion Sports Club and the Népstadion Leisure Association (NSZE) in 1993. With this, the idea of the MAC’s surviving members was embodied and the MAC’s griffon bird began its new age soaring
In 1999, the Athletics Centre hosted part of the World Pentathlon Championships. In 1999, the grandstand and changing rooms were renovated to host the World Championships of the Pentathlon, in partnership with the Alfréd Hajós National Sports Complex, where the riding and running events were also held in our stadium. For the public, the existing 1620-seat permanent grandstand has been supplemented with mobile stands.
2010. In December, the General Assembly also decided on the new name of the club, according to which the MAC will return to its original name and drop the Népstadion suffix.
