Movie Island 2025 – 13 Countries, 13 Films on Margaret Island

From 7 to 19 August 2025, one of Budapest’s most unique open-air events returns: Movie Island. For 13 consecutive evenings, 13 cultural institutes or embassies will each present a film in the charming garden cinema setting of the Margaret Island Athletics Centre. Screenings begin every night at 8:00 p.m., with gates opening at the same time. Entry is free, and no registration is required.

Visitor Information:

  • We can welcome the first 500 visitors each evening. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

  • Screenings will start between 8:10 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., depending on lighting conditions and film length.

  • No seating is provided. Please bring your own blanket or cushion to sit on the grass or the running track. Camping or fishing chairs are not allowed on the grass or track but may be placed behind the track on the narrow concrete strip if necessary.

  • Please avoid wearing high heels.

  • Food and drinks may be brought into the venue, but only in plastic containers. We kindly ask you to take all rubbish with you when you leave.

  • No dogs or other pets are allowed in the venue.

  • Bicycles must be locked outside the entrance.

  • Toilets are available during the event.

  • Visitors using wheelchairs may enter through the service gate, accessible via a side road about 100 metres from the main entrance. Please ring the intercom at the gate.

  • Screenings will only take place in suitable weather conditions. In case of cancellation due to weather, updates will be shared on the Movie Island Facebook page and the relevant event. If a screening is cancelled, we will reschedule it for a later date.

  • All films will be screened in their original language with Hungarian subtitles. The Finnish film will also have English subtitles.

  • Films are recommended for audiences aged 18 and over.

  • By attending the event, visitors agree to the possibility of being photographed or filmed, and these materials may be used publicly by the organisers.
